Hon. Sujata Koirala returns from Cambodia

Nepali Congress leader and Member of NC Parliamentary Executive Committee & ICAPP Standing Committee Member Hon. Sujata Koirala returned to Kathmandu recently after taking part in International Poll Observers delegation to monitor Cambodia Parliamentary elections. Political leaders from Nepal, India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Russia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines, Magnolia, Japan, European Union & Colombia had been invited as International poll Observers.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry and Election Commission of Cambodia had invited independent election observers from International Conference of Political Parties (ICAPP), Centric Democrat International (CDI), Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI) and the European Parliament to observe the Cambodia Parliamentary Elections held on 4th June 2017.

The ICAPP, established in 2000, is a worldwide political organization with members of 360 political parties from 53 countries in Asia. ICAPP promotes exchanges, cooperation & mutual understanding between political parties of Asia, Europe, Africa & Central America.

Hon. Sujata Koirala speaking at the press conference after the national election told the International and Cambodian media about the free and fair election held in Cambodia and lauded the role of the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen in conducting the election in free and fair manner. She even informed that the US observer team also made a press statement about the fair election in Cambodia. Leader Koirala met the leaders of different political parties; Cambodia Peoples Party (CPP), Cambodia National Rescue Party and FUNCINPEC Party prior to the polling to discuss the election situation. International Observer Team was also briefed by National Electoral Committee of Cambodia about the election. Hon. Sujata Koirala also visited the world heritage site of Siem Reap and observed the ancient Hindu capital Angkoor.

Former President of Colombia & President CDI Mr. Andres Pastrana Arango with ten observers from seven countries and Former Speaker of Indonesia & Vice- Chairman CAPDI Mr. Agunge Laksono were also the part of the International Observer Team with whom NC leader Sujata Koirala had cordial discussion on bilateral relations between our two countries.

Dinner was hosted in the honor of visiting International Observer Delegation by Honorable Hor Namhong, Vice- Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee and Member of the Standing Committee of Cambodian People’s Party and Deputy Prime Minister.
