Sujata Koirala was born on 9th February 1954 to late Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushma Koirala in Biratnagar.Being born into the Koirala family, Sujata Koirala was involved in politics from an early stage of her life. Most of the family members have remained prominent figures in Nepali Congress party since the country's first democratic movement. Three members of the family, all brothers (Matrika Prasad Koirala, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, Girija Prasad Koirala) have been Prime Ministers of Nepal.
