Remarks by Hon’bleSujataKoirala, central committee member of the Nepali Congress Party, and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal at “CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties” in Beijing on November 30, 2017.

Mr/Madam Chairperson,

Esteemed fellow leaders,

Distinguished delegates,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my privilege and honourto represent the Nepali Congress at this important forum.

Nepali Congress expresses sincere thanks for the kind invitation to this meeting and greatly appreciates the generous hospitality extended to us.

We express our deep appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, for his enlightening key note address. His address has set the tone for our deliberations.

We attach great importance to this high level “ Dialogue with World Political Parties” convened by the Communist Party of China with the theme “Work Together to Build a Community of Shared Future for Mankind and a Beautiful World: Responsibilities of Political Parties”. We look forward to exchange views with dignitaries of political parties, experts and scholars, and explore solutions to the challenges facing the development of human society.

We are impressed by General Secretary Xi Jinping’svision to build a community of shared future. It is so encouraging to see a large number of political parties from across the world representing the aspirations of their people gathered here. We look forward to interacting with them on this theme.

Nations’ destinies are intertwined. No nation can live in isolation in this global village. In this increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, we all need to work together, and build a shared future for the humanity.

The impressive economic performance and social transformation taking place in China under the CPC leadership is exemplary. The success in economic growth, and poverty alleviation in China has attracted the World’sattention. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) remains one of the significant flagship projects proposed by the Chinese leadership. Nepal has joined this Initiative by signing the Memorandum of Understanding. Nepal looks forward to working together to enhance connectivity under this project and benefit from the economic prosperity of China.

Nepal and China are close friends and neighbours. As close neighbors, intimately linked by geography and culture, Nepal and China have anexcellent state of bilateral relations.

Nepali Congress Party attaches great importance to our relations with China.

The visionary, contemporary leader of Nepal, and my beloved late father, Girija Prasad Koirala, articulated socialist and democratic principles of the Nepali Congress Party and put forward the bottom-line strategy that the Party would never compromise on matters of sovereignty and would never accept any infringement of people’s rights. During Nepal’s political transformation process a decade ago, he emphasized on dialogue, consensus, cooperation and unity for finding solutions to political differences and for charting a constructive course of socio economic development path in the country.

We continue to be guided by this commitment.

Nepal is happy to see the growing role of China and its ability to influence and shape world events at both the regional and global levels for peace, progress and prosperity.

We are extremely pleased to note that Nepal-China relations are nurtured by the frequent exchange of visits and interactions at various levels between our countries. It is a matter of great importance that the relationships between the Nepali Congress Party and the Communist Party of China continues to grow and flourish over the years.

Nepali Congress Party remains unequivocally committed to the One China Policy and assures that under no circumstances Nepali territory will be allowed to be used against our great neighbours. Panchsheel – the five principles of peaceful co-existence – guides our relations.

We believe, increased interactions between us will enhance understanding, promote new ideas and conceptsto create a favorable situation for us all.

In conclusion,

It is my great pleasure to share with this distinguished audience that

Nepal is holding historic provincial and federal elections under the new constitution that was written by people’s representatives and promulgated by elected Constituent Assembly in 2015. These elections come after successfully holdinglocal elections after nearly 20 years, due to Nepal’s internal conflict. We are confident that these elections will firmly put the country on the path of peace, stability, progress and prosperity.

We thank our friends and well-wishers for their goodwill, support and assistance during all phases of the peace process and democratic transition.

The country has enormous resources providing many possibilities for development. We have put in place provisions for protection and promotion of investment. We welcome investments for development.

It is our firm belief that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nepal promotes opportunities for greater expansion of prosperity at regional and global levels and better contribute to building a community of a shared, beautiful future for mankind.

I thank you very much for your kind attention.
