Leader of Nepali Congress and Chief of Foreign Department Sujata Koirala said that our foreign policy is dismal because of weak political parties. According to leader Koirala, foreign policy has been facing problems because the political parties themselves cannot take decisions on any topic. Koirala expressed her views in an interaction program titled ‘Republic Nepal’s Foreign Policy’ organized on the occasion of the 52nd annual day of Nepal Professor’s Association. She mentioned that external powers are able to play games because we are weak. According to her, the more we improve our relations with India and China, the more Nepal will be economically prosperous. Pointing to the view of the army that they can manage the Sindhupalchowk landslide by themselves, Koirala said that the government should not function under the directions of Nepal Police and Nepal Army. She added that the government will not be able to work for the benefit of the people if it does not listen to them. Since the biggest festival, Dashain is nearing and Sindhupalchowk is the main border for transporting food and relief to victims, she requested the government to open the road immediately. Since India has provided significant support for the development of Nepal and has again promised to provide support, leader Koirala suggested that there should be economical and social transformation by identifying the country’s right political direction. When the nation is weak, external players will start their games. Koirala said that political parties need to be cautious since the powers that broke the unity of Congress and UML have started becoming active again. She requested all the parties to criticize each other in a closed session rather than coming out into the open.
She said that the stronger the relations between the two countries, the more the nation will be strengthened and empowered. She requested the leaders to consider the benefit of the nation while making development decisions. She said that it was very sad that the PDA and PTA could not be signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit because of the lacking of the political leaders.
